The Captain's
Logbook

One honest entry a day. A voyage and a book are written the same way.

The secondary log was for Tom: a leather-bound book, unlined pages, in which he was to write his daily observations. He was to write neither summaries nor conclusions, only what he had seen, what the work had produced, what the examination had found. The point was the effort of making the imprecise precise: turning what he had lived into words another man could read and understand.

One entry at a time

A book is not written in a storm of inspiration. It is written in daily entries. Set your pace.

Anima runs to about 56,000 words. Printed pages counted at about 255 words a page.

Keeping the log honest

Count the day's words, compare one draft with the last, set the titles straight.
